Studying In The UK
It has been a struggle for me these few months, deciding between the 3 continents. Where should I study? Australia, the States or UK? Its tough in a way to decide, because you have to calculate both cost and time spent. Putting into consideration as well the kind of environment and culture you will be exposing yourself to. My first piority, is not to get a degree with high prestige, although that's rather foolish of me. First of all, a degree is just to help you gain entry into your first job. How you carry yourself and progress from there is really up to you, although a really prestigious degree does have a role to play as well. As for my future profession, it is a job of a kind I must say, specialized, but at the same time, in great demand. Does getting a really prestigious degree in this field really help you in the long run? Perhapes attitude and aptitude plays a bigger role. Well I was taken a back when I heard that Harvard University has got a school for my course as well.
Alright, back to the decision making point which I have to make between the 3 continents. Both Australia and the United States are offering my course for a full time of 4 years at a bachelors level, while the UK offers 3 years with a chance to get honours. Well, which would you pick if you were me? Then theres New Zealand. Hurgh!!!! but New Zealand is so unhappening. As if to say UK is happening. My friend once told me that one of the more happening activites in the UK is to do shopping at a supermarket. How happening can things get, really. As I have emphizied earlier, my first piority is to complete my degree in a shorter time. Its going to be a tough decision between the UK and New Zealand, both having 3 years of full time study. Is it really wrong to have a desirer to want to study less? Considering the fact that the States and Canada is going to cost more over 4 years and Australia is only going to be cheaper by 7K, I would rather go for a UK degree which I feel has better prestige over the Aussy one. Most Singaporeans these days go to Australia for their further studies. I feel that if I have the opportunity to go to the UK, it will give me the chance to experience life in a place where fewer Singaporeans have gone.
I then started to apply for the UK under "UCAS" which is the central application system for UK universities. I have the choice of picking 6 universities with a application fee of 15 pounds which is Singapore 45 bucks. I selected Coventry University, Glascow Coledian University, St Margrets College Edingburg, University Of Derby, Northampton University. I excluded University of Liverpool from the list because its tution fees are high, the same goes for London.
What would life be for me there?
